The Akarua Vineyard is a unique site, comprising 52 ha, including 34.5 ha of vines nestled in the foothills of the mountains, along the Kawarau River and amidst stunning scenery. Located in the Central Otago region of Bannockburn, it is set in three west facing terraces and enjoys full year-round sunshine. This exceptional terroir offers a great expression of pinot noir, as a reflection of the spectacular mountains that surround the property. Akarua means "two vines" in Maori, referring to the original grape varieties planted in 1995 by Sir Clifford Skeggs: pinot noir and chardonnay. They already represent 78.5% and 2% of the share, respectively, plus some Pinot Gris and Riesling.
