Masseto 2017 manages to encapsulate all the ripeness and concentration of a particularly sunny and dry vintage. The colour is almost black, the nose reveals a rich and ripe expression of concentrated black fruit, with hints of spices and liquorice. On the palate the wine manages to combine great intensity and ripeness of fruit with a remarkable sense of balance and freshness. The tannins are densely knit, the texture velvety, the finish shows lingering fruitiness and a vibrant acidity giving a final touch of freshness. Although it comes from one of the warmest vintages, 2017 can be considered a very typical Masseto in its unmistakable combination of richness and elegance.
The 2019 Masseto, harvested a little later than usual, benefited from the sunny but mild climate of early September, giving it a dense but harmonious expression. The young color suggests a rich and intense wine, the nose shows typical aromas of ripe cherries, violet, licorice and dark chocolate. Masseto 2018 is a wine that perfectly expresses its unique terroir and its vintage, with its dark color and its expressive nose of perfectly ripe plums and cherries, as well as some spicy touches of new oak. On the palate, the wine is ample and rich, qualities expected of a Masseto, but it also shows the refined and silky texture so typical of the 2018 vintage. The finish is long, with a nice refreshing tannic presence. A particularly elegant version of Masseto, combining richness and refinement. 97 points Robert Parker
